Hello Beautiful Flowers

Happy Advent! I am always filled with so much hope and excitement during Advent.

The greatest gift my Grandma Rose gave me was her love for Christ. She was my most influential guide in my faith journey as a child. When we would stay with her during our summer breaks, she was consistent in taking my sister and I to daily mass at the chapel in the local hospital where she volunteered her time. We would catch the city bus to get there and help her get everything ready for mass. I did not realize it at the time, but everything about her was an expression of Christ’s love. The way she prepared our breakfast, gently spoke to us when we misbehaved, modeled prayer, relentlessly continued on with the rosary each night out loud even though we did not always follow along and how she gazed at the cross at mass — she lived and breathed Christ’s love to everyone she encountered.

I did not see it then, but as I reflect on my Grandma Rose, she lived out her entire life as a prayer. Our family had the honor of caring for her in her final years in our home. When she passed over 10 years ago surrounded by her family singing in prayer, I felt so much love. It took me a few years before I was able to go through her personal items that we had in our garage. In one of the boxes, I found all her Christmas decorations. She used the same decorations for as long as I could remember, so each item I pulled out had such a special memory for me. Two of my most treasured items in the box was her hand painted porcelain Nativity set and the Advent wreath. I keep the Nativity set out all year because I love it so much. Each year when I pullout her Advent wreath, I remember how faithful she was to lead us in prayer according to the daily ready before we ate. I place the wreath at the end of our table each year and can only hope that this devotion and tradition is something that my children can look back on it as intimately as I do. The greatest gift I have ever received has been my faith, modeled so lovingly by my sweet Grandma Rose.

My Prayer

For You and Me

Good and gracious God, we thank you for the gift of your Son. Help us to stay focused on the wonder and great love Christ brings. Help us to always remember those who are now in your loving arms and the gifts that You sent them to deliver. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

Pace e Bene,

Mama Flower
